President Gregory Martin, Vice-President Luke Norell, and Secretary Mary Rose Norell invited winner of the 2009 Grieg Prize, Norwegian bass-baritone Njål Sparbo for a series of concerts in November 2015. Audiences in Goshen (Indiana) and Indianapolis warmly received Njål Sparbo's lecture-performances on the songs of Edvard Grieg, assisted by Martin, the Norells, and the Goshen College Chamber Choir. In Goshen, Njål performed to a full house in Rieth Recital Hall, singing Grieg’s Norwegian, Danish, and German songs in the original language, and taking time before each song to highlight aspects of the poetry. The event was so well-received that Njål, the Goshen College Music Department, and audience members alike requested a repeat event (see 2017 SalzBergen Conference!). Njål also taught masterclasses and provided mentorship to University of Indianapolis and Goshen College voice students.
